چکیده

This paper focuses on the skeletal architecture and morphotraits of Mediterranean horny sponge Sarcotragus spinosulus (Demospongiae, Keratosa, Dictyoceratida, Irciniidae). special endoskeletal system consists a dense, variably complex connective architecture, which extends throughout entire body is embedded in an abundant jelly-like extracellular matrix (ECM). To investigate topographic arrangement micro-morphotraits these structures detail by colour, also during morphogenetic processes, histology techniques using light microscopy are essential. New information provided coordinated processes that characterize growth assembly collagenic prototype fibrous elements drive skeleton remodelling. Our results highlight some novelties remarkable peculiarities fibrous, filamentous fibrillar components at levels both composition structure. The morphofunctional significance suggested background anatomical complexity S. spinosulus.

An overview of the Mediterranean cave-dwelling horny sponges (Porifera, Demospongiae)

The present synthesis focuses on the so called 'horny sponges' recorded from marine caves of the Mediterranean Sea. The main aim is to provide a list of all recorded species, diagnostic keys to their identification up to family and genus level, and exhaustive, formally uniform descriptions at the species level contributing to sharing of information on the faunistics and taxonomy of Mediterranea...

Porifera: The Sponges

Found at all depths and latitudes, sponges are among the most ubiquitous of marine organisms. With the advent of modern laboratory and field techniques (e.g., electron microscopy, histochemistry, the development of molecular biology and biochemistry, and the use of SCUBA for collection purposes) our knowledge of sponge biology has mushroomed (see reviews by Fell, 1974; Bergquist et al., 1979). ...

New insights into craniofacial morphogenesis.

No region of our anatomy more powerfully conveys our emotions nor elicits more profound reactions when disease or genetic disorders disfigure it than the face. Recent progress has been made towards defining the tissue interactions and molecular mechanisms that control craniofacial morphogenesis. Some insights have come from genetic manipulations and others from tissue recombinations and biochem...

A New Diketopiperazine from the Marine Sponge Callyspongia Species

Chemical investigation of the sponge Callyspongia sp. from the South China Sea afforded one new diketopiperazine, cyclo-(R-Pro-6-hydroxyl-S-Ile) (1), along with six known diketopiperazines: staphyloamide A (2), cyclo(S-Pro-S-Phe) (3), cyclo-(R-Pro-R-Phe) (4), cyclo-(S-Pro-R-Leu) (5), cyclo-(S-Pro-R-Ala) (6), cyclo(R-Tyr-R-Phe) (7), and three known tryptophan-derived alkaloids: C 2 -α-D-mannosyl...
